Addie’s Blog #14 – Into the new year!
I can’t believe Christmas and new years has been and gone and we are now
Well we have had lots of sunshine – almost a drought then the rain finally came! 🙌🙌 we have
since had a great balance of sun and rain and the grass is growing well. Our cows have loved OAD for most of this season and we think this is the best option going forward for us. So our plan is to milk TAD until mating then OAD for the rest of the season. Our cows have done better on OAD than 16 hours that we were on last season from Dec-Mar 🙂
We got all our new grass in last month and our crop for this winter is growing fantastic! We plan
to cultivate and new grass 10% of the farm each year if the budget allows. School is finally back
in full swing and being on OAD has allowed us to attend all our kids school events which has
been great!
We are heading off to a rugby game in Christchurch with our bank this weekend which will be a nice off the farm outing for just Kip and I. We are busy finishing off lime for the farm and runoff this week, splitting and stacking 25 tonne of firewood which should keep us warm for the next couple of winters!
I have an online catch up with Sally from CMK this week to have a look at the budget and planning for next season I guess. Man how time flies. We are about to start our 3rd season 🤯 it has been great to see interest rates coming down especially our own! Looking forward to also discussing tax with Sally this week and see where we are sitting for that and hopefully come up with a plan.
