Another busy month here on the West Coast. The sunshine continues to beam everyday which
means a lot of new grass going in, new fencing and more crop paddocks. Kip has been extremely busy driving the digger – he completed 60 hours alone cultivating two new grass paddocks.
We have also been busy applying lime. The farm is pretty dry at the moment, we find ourselves
wishing for a just a little bit of rain. However when we do get a sprinkle the grass and crops have been thriving on it. Our cows are doing extremely well on OAD and have held at 1.5MS on all grass and still going strong. Going OAD after mating has been the best decision we have made and we will continue this next season.
School has finally started back! I used to be a school teacher and man did I love the school holidays especially the long Christmas ones! But now as a parent working full time on the dairy farm and at the cafe I was counting down the days until school started back! 🤣 We had an amazing summer as a family – spending a lot of time with family at the lake.
The budget is tracking nicely .. I think 🤔 our plan is to get out of overdraft for the last few
months of the season however we have spent a lot on cultivation and new fencing this season
especially while the payout is good while continuing to pay a high amount of principal on our
mortgage and paying off our heifer loan. Looking forward to catching up with CMK around this
seasons upcoming tax.
It is exciting to hear about the launch of Milking It 2.0 and applications opening for that! I hope there are lots of you out there applying for it as it has been the best dairy farming programme to be a part of. Kip and I have learned so many valuable things to take with us in our dairy farming journey!
