Dairy Women’s Network members will get a hand in planning for the future of their farm business, with a new workshop series held in conjunction with NZ CA Limited and ASB.

These free three-hour sessions will help attendees understand their options for succession; what to think about when going through the process; how to navigate the common challenges when planning for the future, such as finances; and what the future of their farm business could look like.

Farmers often shy away from having the courageous conversations with key stakeholders around succession, and this knowledge is a key aspect of delivering these workshops to the regions. NZ CA are pleased to be able to assist DWN with delivering these sessions, says Becks Sayer who sits on the NZ CA Board.

“Many farming families face the fear of the unknown when it comes to succession planning, and often leave things too late. By planning ahead and beginning to work towards succession and personal goals early, there is more chance of all family members getting closer to realizing their dreams.”

This is reflected in the values of the Dairy Women’s Network, which are focused on empowering and equipping their members to succeed.

“That doesn’t just mean providing on-farm knowledge, but enabling them to create targets for themselves personally and their farming business, and achieve those targets,” says Jules Benton, CEO of the Dairy Women’s Network.

“We hope that by the end of these workshops, members will know more about their options for the future and how to work toward those goals and decisions.”

Ben Speedy, ASB General Manager Rural, says ASB is a keen supporter of the series because succession planning, especially for those in the rural sector, is significantly important.

“New Zealand’s primary industries will help us through the Covid-19 recovery, and dairy forms a large part of that. Succession is key to ensuring the sector endures and we’re committed to doing what we can to support our rural businesses and the sector more broadly.”

There will be ten workshops across the country for DWN members, with the first session in Franklin on Monday 12th October. Following sessions will be located in King Country, North Canterbury, Manawatu, South Waikato, Wairarapa, Taranaki, Taupo, West Coast and South Canterbury.
